Rob Hewitt becomes Sabre Grappling’s first No-Gi Promotion

We are exceptionally proud to announce a huge milestone in the Sabre Grappling family! Today, Rob Hewitt was the first person at Sabre Grappling to receive a promotion to the prestigious Yellow Band in the Raspberry Ape No-Gi Grappling system, developed by renowned grappler Daniel Strauss, also known as the Raspberry Ape. This system comprises four distinct bands: White, Yellow, Green, and Red.

Head Instructor Matt MacGuire said:

“Rob's promotion to Yellow Band is a testament to his technical growth, commitment, fighting spirit, and his ability to learn new techniques and apply them under pressure. Since joining Sabre Grappling in Stevenage, Rob has displayed a passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi grappling that goes beyond the average student. His constant thirst for improvement and willingness to help others exemplifies the true spirit of grappling.”

The Yellow Band represents a significant step up from White, showcasing a grappler who has a firm grasp of core techniques, solid mat awareness, and the ability to apply their skills with confidence and consistency. Rob has worked incredibly hard to refine his game, and this promotion is well-deserved recognition of his progress.

As a community, Sabre Grappling is proud of Rob's achievement. His promotion not only highlights his personal journey but also serves as an inspiration to everyone training in the gym. It's a reminder that with dedication, perseverance, and the right mindset, we can all achieve our goals in the sport.

We look forward to seeing Rob continue to develop his grappling, pushing towards the next stages in his grappling journey. On behalf of everyone at Sabre Grappling, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Rob!

Well done, Rob – keep up the great work on the mats!

Stay tuned for more updates from the Sabre Grappling team as we continue to grow and celebrate the achievements of our talented members.
